going up... up ...up

Currently there is one 5 story building in the capital city of Nukualofa (the abode of love). It is the Tongan National Reserve bank. There might be three or four, three story buildings and all the rest are two or single story. The BIG news is that reconstruction after the 2006 riots ( i think officially it's called "the incident") has begun. The town is swarming with an ever increasing population of Chinese workers. They were brought in along with all building materials from China; as part of the conditions of a $200 plus million dollar loan to the Kingdom from the good people of China ....payable with interest; of course. Included in these new buildings are several 4 and 5 story office/apartment buildings... the likes of which no one has ever seen in Tonga before. So in a way it's exciting to see the big empty spaces left by the burnt out buildings being filled to look less like a toothless grin and more like a warm fresh smile. The big question is who is going to occupy all this new business space ???? The new Peace Corps business educators can't get here soon enough. Planing ahead is NOT one of the strengths in Tonga.
